Written to the SIL Practice Standards. Current to August 2026

Documents can't answer an auditor's question. People do.

Stage 2 of a certification audit happens on site: your staff interviewed, your participants interviewed, your supports watched. Perfect paperwork will not save a team that freezes in the kitchen. This pack prepares the conversation.

Why the interview matters

Documents pass Stage 1. People pass Stage 2.

The Commission publishes a free two-page factsheet, "What will NDIS auditors ask you?" This pack doesn't hide it. It links to it. What it adds is depth the factsheet can't carry.

1

Beats the free factsheet on purpose

Questions mapped to specific quality indicators, weak versus strong answers side by side, and a script a supervisor can actually run at handover.

2

Written on shift, not in a boardroom

No compliance ratings and no predicted outcomes. Just preparation for a conversation your team will have anyway, from someone who's done the handover.

3

Targets what the score actually tests

Every indicator is scored 0 to 3. This pack targets the indicators most often lost to a weak interview answer, not a missing document.

"How do you know this system works in practice? Can you show us an example?"
From the Commission's own published audit case study, describing why the audit became "less theoretical and more real"

How the score actually works

Every indicator is scored 0 to 3. A single major non-conformity stops registration progressing and gives the provider three months to fix it.

What auditors actually ask

These are for provider awareness only. They are never rehearsed with participants.

The pattern the pack teaches for managers: system, then example, then evidence. Name it, prove it, put the document on the table.

The question that catches most SIL teams out

Try the tabs below. This is exactly the depth every one of the 64 questions in the pack gets.

"How does Sam decide what to have for dinner?"
Tests: SDM QI 1 · QI 4

"We ask them." / "There's a menu roster." / "They're pretty easy-going."

"Thursday afternoons we do the shopping list together. I use the photo cards because Sam doesn't use many words, so I put two or three options out and he picks. If he pushes one away that's a no, and I write that in the food preferences sheet so the next person on shift knows. Last week he chose the butter chicken two nights running so we've added it to the regular list."

Point at The communication tool itself, the preferences record, the shift note.
One of the highest-value questions in the pack
"What is active support? Show me what it looks like here."
Practice Governance QI 3 →
One of the highest-risk questions in the pack
"Is there anything Sam isn't allowed to have, or anywhere he can't go?"

The two rules that keep this product clean

What this pack will never do

Read these twice. They're the difference between preparation and misconduct, and they're printed on the cover of every pack, not buried in the terms.

Rule 01

Rehearse practice, not scripts

Every strong answer describes something a real team actually does. If a worker can't answer honestly, the problem isn't the answer. It's a gap in practice. The pack says so, and tells the provider to fix the gap before the audit, not rehearse around it.

Rule 02: non-negotiable

Participants are never coached

Auditors interview participants privately to get unfiltered views. This pack never scripts an answer for a participant to give an auditor. What it provides instead: a plain-language sheet telling them an audit is happening, that they can say no, and that they can have support with them.

What's in the pack

Seven components, built for the floor, not the boardroom

Delivered as a single tagged PDF with working bookmarks, so a supervisor can jump straight to the question they need mid-audit.

A

Question bank

Every likely auditor question, mapped to the indicator it tests, with weak/strong answers and the evidence to point at.

51 pages
B

Eight 15-minute team sessions run at handover, one a week. Read aloud cold, no prep needed.

10 pages
C

Observation checklist

3 pages
D

Participant information sheet

Plain-language explainer: what an audit is, your rights, and that you can say no. Nothing more, ever.

2 pages, plus provider notes
E

Manager's brief

The governance-level questions and exactly what evidence to have on the table before the auditor arrives.

6 pages
F

2 pages
G
